Final term begins…

Today was a hectic day! I had an interview for a job and then drove way too fast to make it to the first class of my last term at Kaplan.

I am so blessed to have an internship and I hope I will be able to fit it all in this next 10 weeks!

Our first homework assignment is to research other graphic designers’ logos and then start sketching ideas for our own. We are also to get paper samples that reflect our own style and personality.

I am very excited because I think I already have worked out my design. If you know me, I really like simple and direct logos. Some of the greatest logos and brands in history are the simplest design – think Apple, IBM, Ralph Lauren, DKNY, etc.

So, wish me luck, faithful readers…

Playing Catch-up…

Hello faithful readers! What a week it has been…

Final projects and wrap-up for the term went by so fast. It is still hard to believe the term is over. I looked today and my grades posted already.

I will be on the President’s List again this term! I am very grateful to my professor for working so closely with me and being concerned about my progress.

I cannot say enough good things about my internship so far. The owner is very nice and is doing some really wonderful work for people. I am honored to be a part. If you get a chance, check out CBStudios on Facebook or online at http://www.cbstudios.com/

I have added some of the photographs I turned in for the final project. Some of them you will recognize and some I have never posted before. I hope you enjoy them.

I am working on a new logo for my internship. As soon as I have it finished and my new boss starts using it I will let you know so you can see my design!

I have one week off from school and while I am working at CB Studios, I’ve been job hunting a little more. I have an interview on Wednesday, June 8 for a PA state job. Wish me luck, pray, burn candles, etc. Whatever you can do so that I make the right decision.

Keep positive, faithful readers… C

Only one more term to go!

I still cannot believe this term has gone by so fast. I think it is because this term I have enjoyed myself so much. Every assignment was challenging and it really felt like I was on my way to becoming a graphic designer.

I have uploaded my cereal box project for you to see. I am really proud of it. It is on the Class Projects page.

Also, I am excited to announce that I have an internship for the next two months! A local man that works freelance on his own is taking me under his wing to learn web design. I am thrilled that I have this opportunity! Please wish me luck as he’s already given me 2 projects…

Until next time, faithful reader, keep reaching for your goals… C

Term Ramp…

Posted: May 20, 2011 in Daily Blog

The term is wrapping up quickly and we are working on several projects at once, including a couple of field trips.

In my graphic design class, I am working on a cereal box cover design. I’ve decided to use two of my favorite video game characters. It is coming together nicely.

In digital photography, we have been working on multiple projects. I finished my tourism poster and magazine spread for Gettysburg Battlefield. The projects are in .pdf format on the Class Projects page.

We also recently went to Hagerstown City Park for a second time. We had to take pictures that showcased shadows and also use natural light for portraits. I have included those pictures on the Digital Photography page.

I want to again apologize for the length of time between the updates. I am still struggling with my health and some days it is best if I either stay in bed or relax on the sofa. Otherwise, I exacerbate my condition.

Until next time, faithful readers… C

Smashing!

Posted: May 14, 2011 in Daily Blog

I ordered the Smashing Book #2 some time ago and it arrived this weekend. I am excited to read it and see what it has to say about graphic design, web development and social media.

Some of the chapters are: The Principles of Great Graphic Design, Visible vs. Invisible Design and Sketching, Wireframing and Prototyping.

I am also excited for Monday’s Digital Design class. We are goingto be working on ways to combat design-block and burnout. It promises to be one of those experiences that follow you the rest of your life!

Until next time, keep learning, faithful reader… C

Ad and Montage…

Posted: May 11, 2011 in Daily Blog

Again I must apologize. My body is once again dictating what I do. I have also been doing more at home since my MIL is out of town.

Today we critiqued our gradient mesh/gradients ads. I have posted mine on the Class Projects page.

We have also been working on a montage. Our teacher wanted two totally unrelated things to be metamorphosed into one cohesive piece. I chose a tiger lily. I have also posted this on the Class Projects page.

We are currently working on a tourism poster. I am using the pictures I took at Gettysburg Battlefields. I will post on the Class Projects page as soon as I am finished tomorrow or Friday.

I have received my first edition of the Carson Mag. It is truly different and unique. I am going to take it in to show my classmates. My teacher instantly subscribed to it as soon as she heard about it.

I cannot believe there are less than 3 weeks before the end of this term. My dream of finishing a degree is so much closer. It is going by too fast. I hope I can secure a job soon.

Until next time, faithful reader… C

Gettysburg…

Posted: May 7, 2011 in Daily Blog

I haven’t posted in a couple of days, I think… I have been out of commission since my field trip to the Gettysburg battlefields.

I think all the walking and excitement took a tole on me. I had to use quite a lot of medicine to be able to get back on my feet today. And, I’m still exhausted. I don’t like my body dictating what I can and cannot do.

Anyway, enough about that. Gettysburg could not have been better! The weather was amazing and the 132 pictures I took were great. Almost every one of them turned out. I think it was a combination of having the time to work and the lighting. Again, it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. I hope my classmates took the time to take pictures that day. Otherwise, they missed out!

I will post a few pictures on the Digital Photography page for your enjoyment.

Until tomorrow, faithful reader… C
